Worry free Wednesday

Following on from #MindfulMonday my spiritual mentor Marion urged me to try a #WorryfreeWednesday. The idea was to pay attention to any worries that arose and change the thought into something more uplifting. ‘Worries are the robbers of peace’ she wrote.

Sounds simple enough. I certainly had plenty of worries. Some big, some small and many that were downright pointless. I am a terrible worrier, always have been. I spend most of my waking hours with a knot of dread in the pit of my stomach.

The truth is, I don’t have that much to worry about. I am not lying in bed with a terminal illness or fretting over the safety of my children. I have a roof over my head, food in my belly and a kind and gentle husband.

Finances are my biggest worry. There is a leak in our roof at the moment. We’ve spent £10,000 trying to fix it and still the water continues to pour in. What if we never fix it? What if the ceiling caves in? What if all those roofers are just ripping us off? What if, what if, what if…?

Worry free Wednesday did alert me to the fact that I waste an enormous amount of time worrying. Honestly, if I were to list my worries, you’d be here all day…and that would seriously worry me. I wasn’t able to change my worries into something more uplifting. They felt too heavy, as if they were stuck down with superglue. Clearly this is something I need to work on.

Marion also gave me a link to a meditation for worriers. I didn’t get round to doing it yesterday, but will have a go today. Here it is if you want to try it out.

Oh dear, I do worry that I will never stop worrying….😬
